WPAgently documentation

Getting started: your first draft in three steps

Install one plugin, connect an assistant, and create a test draft. Everything else can wait.

What happens here?

You write a normal sentence in a chat. WPAgently checks whether the requested action is allowed. WordPress saves the result as a draft. Nothing is published.

You only need the WPAgently plugin to get started. Everything else can wait.

Step 1: install the WPAgently plugin

WPAgently requires WordPress 6.9 or newer and PHP 8.1 or newer. If you do not know the versions, find them in WordPress under Tools > Site Health > Info.

Free works without a licence key or WPAgently account. With Paid, the licence key is in the Polar customer portal.

  1. Using Free? Download the plugin directly. Bought Paid? Open your downloads at Polar.
  2. In WordPress, open Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin.
  3. Select the downloaded ZIP file. Click “Install Now” and then “Activate”.
  4. With Paid only: open Tools > WPAgently license, paste your licence key, and click “Activate license”. With Free, skip this item.

This step is complete when Tools > WPAgently license shows “Free active” or “Paid”.

Step 2: connect your assistant

Open WPAgently > Connect agent. Click “Create dedicated agent user”.

WordPress creates a separate Editor only for your assistant. It is not an Administrator. Your own user account stays unchanged.

Which path fits you?

I want to work in WordPress

This is the shortest path if you use WordPress 7.0 or newer and have already configured your own AI provider under Settings > Connectors.

  1. Open WPAgently > Chat and Preview.
  2. Select the Editor you just created.
  3. The chat can now read your website. It shows you each change before saving it.

I want to keep using my AI app

Use this path for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, or another supported assistant.

  1. Under Settings > Permalinks, check that “Plain” is not selected. On a new site that is not yet public, you can select “Post name” and save. If your website is already public, do not change its permalink structure without a redirect plan. Ask the person responsible for your website or your hosting provider for help. Your website must also be reachable from the internet over HTTPS.
  2. Stay on WPAgently > Connect agent and select your AI app.
  3. WPAgently shows only the setup for that app. Follow the instructions shown there exactly.
  4. If your browser opens, sign in to WordPress, select the new Editor, and approve access.
  5. Only if you see “Application Password fallback”, select the new Editor and download the connection file. Import it as instructed. Restart your AI app if the instructions tell you to. The file contains a separate WordPress password only for this connection.

Never upload the connection file to a chat. Do not send it to anyone or save it in a public folder.

You are connected when the chat opens or your AI app can read the list of posts.

Step 3: create your first draft

Copy this message first and paste it into your chat:

Check the connection. Read the list of posts and tell me the total number. Do not guess. Do not change anything.

When the answer is correct, copy this second message:

Create a short test post titled “WPAgently Test” as a draft. Do not publish anything. Read the post again. Confirm that it was saved as a draft and consists of valid WordPress blocks.

What success looks like:

  • The reported total matches Posts > All Posts. A result of 0 is valid too.
  • Under Posts, you find “WPAgently Test” with the status “Draft”.
  • The post is not publicly visible.

WPAgently is now ready to use.

Only later, when you need it:

Companion is the technical name of the main plugin. Skills, CLI, and Power are Paid extensions. You do not need them for your first draft.
